How does “Food for Fines” work?

Non-perishable food is accepted as payment for overdue fines assessed on Middletown materials only.

For every $1.00 in overdue fines, we accept $1.00 in non-perishable food.  For example, if you have $1 in overdue fines, bring in 1 can of food.

We cannot accept non-perishable food in lieu of fines for items from other libraries.  All food is donated to the Feed a Friend food pantry at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Newport, RI.
